The Post-Conviction & Returning Citizens Alliance fights wrongful convictions and illegal sentences in Florida’s criminal justice system. We also support formerly incarcerated people by connecting them with resources to reintegrate into society.
The primary focus of the Post-Conviction Alliance is to assist those that may have been wrongfully convicted, illegally sentenced or have claims of ineffective assistance of counsel that may have occurred during a criminal proceeding, plea agreement and or subsequent conviction and or incarceration. Through a thorough comprehensive case review we seek to identify any claims that can be addressed through appropriate legal remedies, such as direct appeals, or other post-conviction remedies.
All retained case work goes through a “Comprehensive Case Review” and all legal work is supervised, reviewed, and approved by our attorney prior to being published, released, or filed. This applies to clients who have retained attorney representation and all pro se litigant filings.
Our secondary focus is the needs of Returning Citizens; those returning to our communities after incarceration. We do this by helping them to connect with the tools, resources, and referrals to make the transition from incarceration to daily life an easier one.
A successful and supportive transition helps to reduce the recidivism rate and further impact on the families. In the returning citizens communities, some major areas of importance are housing, employment, support groups, mentors, and medical and mental health professionals. We do our best to help them connect with resources in their county leading up to release (or an EOS date) and upon returning home.
